Lucy, the famous early human ancestor often called the “grandmother of mankind,” becomes the focus of graduate student Ma Ke’s thesis on the origins of language. As he develops his ideas, his mother Haiyan reappears and takes him to a mysterious old house she has bought. While exploring its secrets, hidden family memories surface.

Gradually, Ma Ke’s life begins to merge with the ancient world he studies, where Lucy’s distant voice seems to echo through time.
